School's out for summer!

It's so hard to believe we have already gone through a whole year of school. It was a long one, and certainly shook things up around the house as far as the schedule goes. I know I will be enjoying the extra time in the evenings not having to do homework, or having to make sure all the clothes are clean before the school week begins. Not to mention lunches, taking too and picking up from school. All together, I can imagine, I am getting quite a bit of time back. I won't get too comfortable though, I know this will all start over in August. I will say for sure, I am not going to enjoy another year of half days. But I suppose it's a small price to pay to assure Andrew is getting the best education. I would hate to see how far behind he would fall had we allowed him to move to First grade.

On another note, I cannot say how proud I am of my little man. I can't believe how much he has learned and grown over the school year. He went from knowing a hand full of numbers to being able to count to 100. Can identify words, can add and subtract, write his name ect. All things he either was rough at doing before or could not do at all. He has come a long way, and for what he has accomplished, I am so happy. I am confident that next year, he can be a leader and it will be a strong year for him. I am going to miss Mrs. Newman, the kids and helping in the class.

And let us not forget Luke, who was less than thrilled to have to sit thru that whole thing.

You're a Star!

This past week Andrew was The Star student. The whole week is special for the Star of the week. The Start student gets to take home the Friday before the Star student back pack. In it contains Brown Bear, a poster, journal, and instructions for parents. Otherwise know as the agenda. We got the bag a couple weeks early because we had our winter break and he would return back the Monday of the weekend he was supposed to begin. So, we initially had Brown Bear much longer than any of the other kids had him.

That weekend we had to complete the "About Me" Poster and complete a journal entry to tell the class what he and Brown Bear had done over the weekend. Brown Bear was to be returned to class on  Monday with his poster. Tuesday : They read and shared the journal entry. Wednesday: Unfortunately, I thought he had woke up with Pink eye so I had kept him home to observe. I am happy to report it was not pink eye - Yay!  Thursday: Each student drew a page about what they like to do with Andrew, this was made into a book for him to keep. To conclude his week as Start student, Friday was the guest chef day. We brought the ingredients for the class to make Frogs on a Log. It is always a pleasure to help in the class. You'd think I would get enough insanity from my own kids! =)

Vacation Day 3

3rd day and loving it... I just love having no schedule to follow. This morning was Polar Express day at Andrew's class. I went to school with him to help in the class. I had not helped in a month. I have felt bad I  have not been helping out or anything. So, it was important to me that I helped all day. I was glad too because I was the only parent there. It makes it easier for Mrs. Newman to do the things she wants to do with the kids. I love helping in the class, it is a pleasure for sure. And a Joy to get to know all the class mates and such.

All the kids got to wear their PJ's to school. Only a couple kids didn't wear them. One of the boys wore a robe and another wore his slippers - So adorable! They watched The Polar Express, while each child got to make antlers the first half of the movie. We took a break and did some jumping and skipping outside to burn some energy and then back in for the last half of the movie and to decorate the cookies I baked and some hot chocolate. I think the kids had a lot of fun.

Today was also a special day for Andrew. This month Andrew got the character award. He looked absolutely adorable, and as Andrew is the youngest child in his class, I think he is doing a good job.

Halloween Day

They had so much fun stuff planned for the kids on Halloween, which they called Scarecrow day. They all dressed in Scarecrow like attire, they got their faces painted and a patch. They had tons of coloring, activities, they made Apple turn overs and got a picture with the class scarecrow. They had snack and then got to sample lots of Apple-ish goodies. Apple sauce, juice, chip, and Apple spread on a chip. They got to play, sing and ended the day with the library and  lots of goodies from school mates and parents.
