Today was the big day! My father in law was having his cancer ridden prostate removed. After receiving the news a couple months ago, we all had the horrid little devil in the back of our minds with that one question. What if? The unknown alone could cause a true lack of sleep and of course, it did.
We all ( the kids ) arrived at the hospital fresh and early this morning, right behind him and Mother in law. They had taken him back and slowly prepped him. We decided just to go down and get some breakfast rather than pacing the waiting room for mom to emerge... Definitely nerve racking.
There was no much left from breakfast in the hospital cafeteria, and I am going to admit , I like the food. I enjoyed all but one meal when I was there when I had Andrew. I had some cereal, hash brown, bacon , cottage cheese and biscuits and gravy. I did not eat than all myself, I had the mouths and Andrew and Steven to help. But I loved the gravy!!! That allowed us to kill much time with some joking with my sis along the way.. man she makes me laugh hard!! We stopped off at the gift shop and got a card and a little pic frame that said " It is cool being Grandpa". Andrew is going to give it to him.
After breakfast we waiting in the front waiting room. Andrew was all over the place. Minor things broke the circles he was running around the room. We even got a visit from Dexter the therapy dog. He was a Golden retriever and he was beautiful!
Andrew seemed to like him, he was a big dog, and I think that was a little different from the lappers we have at home.
Finally on the workers gave Andrew a coloring book, I think they were sick of him running around.. I did not blame them. Grandma was out by then and she was ready for some lunch ( it was about noon by this time). We headed back to the cafeteria. Andrew did his coloring and Steven , Leslie and grandma got some grub, I was still stuffed from breakfast but I did manage to steal some frys and down 2 tropical Iced Tea's.
Once we were done there, we headed back to the waiting room by the entry of where his surgery was. I changed a poopy popper and then it was pretty much time for us to head back so I can go to work. I called Leslie on my break and he had been out for about an hour or so. The surgery took longer than expected, his prostate weighed 90 G or KG what ever it was and the average is 30, as a result of this, he required a blood transfusion. However, the Dr. Is confident that they got everything, and it went well.
So, now, we call all rest better knowing that Grandpa is cancer free!! We thank got that the outcome was successful.
